Practical training for effective evaluation
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) are essential for effective management and improvement of programs and projects. Our training guides participants through the key steps of designing practical MEL processes, using real world examples.
About this module
In this module you will learn the key concepts and skills needed to develop Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Frameworks that will assist organisations to measure the impact of their work, provide more effective services, and advocate on behalf of clients and communities. We will guide you step by step as you develop the key components of an M&E Framework for a real-world program or project. Our proven approach supports you to clarify your evaluation focus, plan purposeful data collection, and generate insightful findings.
After completing this module, you will take away drafts of core elements of an M&E Framework and data collection plan that you have developed, as well as practical templates and resources for ongoing use.
You will build your skills to:
- Explain how Monitoring and Evaluation are used together to generate actionable insights
- Confidently read, understand and develop the various elements of an M&E Framework, and articulate their relationship with Program Logic and Theory of Change
- Define the purpose, scope and stakeholders of M&E processes within your context
- Design evaluation questions, criteria and indicators that will lead to useful findings
- Develop a data collection plan that is robust and practical
Who this module is for
This module is designed for people who have beginner to intermediate skills in Monitoring and Evaluation. It is highly relevant to those working in and with for-purpose organisations, whose roles relate to any of the following:
- Research or evaluation
- Planning, design and development of services and programs
- Program or project management
- Quality improvement or stakeholder engagement
Format of this module
- Online: 2 x half day sessions
- Onsite: 1 x full day session
Our approach
Our down-to-earth training is specially designed for social purpose organisations across health, community services, education, international development and beyond. Participants in our interactive workshops use real projects as working examples, with a strong focus on ‘learning by doing’. Our facilitators draw on their extensive experience in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning to explain complex concepts in plain language, and help you apply them to your own context.
Here's what a past training participant said about this module:
Practical. Excellent resources. Clear links between theory and implementation. Skills and knowledge of the presenters. Covered a lot of ground in a little time, with material we can follow up on as needed.
Our presenters
Our facilitators are Lirata staff with extensive real-world experience in designing and conducting Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning processes, as well as providing training and mentoring. Presenters vary depending on the session but often include Kate Randall, Alex Gruenewald, Katie Ronson and/or Mark Planigale.
Related training modules
Monitoring & Evaluation Frameworks have a close connection with logic models. To get the most out of this module, you will need a good working knowledge of Program Logic and Theory of Change. We encourage participants registering for this module to also register for our introductory module on Program Logic and Theory of Change (MEL-01), as these two modules together cover the fundamentals of MEL design.
